You are
a Producer

You are considered a producer within the meaning of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) if your company manufactures, sells or imports packaging or packaged products onto the French market.

Under the EPR scheme, you are responsible for managing the end-of-life of packaging (sorting, collection and treatment). In order to lighten and share part of this task, producers can join an approved Producer Responsability Organisation.

Which EPR scheme
applies to which types of commercial packaging?

Extended Producer Responsibility for food service packaging  

Since March 2024.    

This framework applies to large-format food packaging intended for use by food service professionals (such as drinks containers holding more than 10 litres, certain tinned goods weighing more than 2 kg, etc.).

If you sell this type of packaged product, your business falls within the scope of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme for food service packaging.

Extended Producer Responsibility for profesionnal packaging  

From 1 July 2026.  

It will apply to all so-called industrial and commercial packaging (including multi-pack packaging, transport packaging and retail packaging), including foos service packaging. If you manufacture, import or sell any such packaging or packaged products, your business falls within the scope of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme for professionnal packaging

On July 1st, 2026, the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme for professional packaging will come into force and merge with the EPR scheme for food service packaging. A single set of regulations will then apply to all commercial packaging, including food service packaging.

CITEO PRO, an accredited Producer Responsability Organisation under the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme for food service packaging, is applying for accreditation under the EPR scheme for professional packaging to continue supporting you through this transition and offering solutions tailored to your specific needs.
